BEAUMONT, Texas – The honors continue to roll in for Lamar University junior running back
Kade Harrington. Having already been named to the STATS FCS, AP and College Sports Madness All-American squads, Harrington added the American Football Coaches Association FCS All-America team to his resume Monday morning. Harrington received first-team honors from the AFCA.
The AFCA has selected an All-American team every year since 1945. The AFCA All-American team is chosen by FCS coaches. What started as just one team in 1945, has now grown into All-American squads exclusive to each level of the game from NAIA all the way through NCAA FCS and FBS.
Harrington was one of four Southland players named to the 2015 squad, and just one of two SLC players on the offensive side of the ball. The four Southland players are the second-highest total of any FCS conference.
A finalist for the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Year award (formerly known as the Walter Payton Award) – FCS football's version of the Heisman Trophy – Harrington put together a season never before seen in the history of the Southland, and rarely accomplished at the NCAA Division I level. The nation's leading running back through the regular season, Harrington became just the seventh player in NCAA Division history to record 2,000 rushing yards in just 10 games – a list that includes Marcus Allen and Barry Sanders. He closed out the year by becoming the first LU player to be named Southland Conference Player of the Year, and honor given just two years after Harrington was the first Cardinal named league freshman of the year.
The Kingwood, Texas native ended the regular-season as the nation's leader in total rushing yards, yards per game, all-purpose yards and rushing touchdowns He also finished second in the country in scoring and third nationally in yards per game. Harrington set a new school record by rushing for at least 100 yards in eight consecutive games. In six of those eight games, Harrington rush for at least 200 yards including a Southland record 347 against Abilene Christian.

th on the eve of the FCS Championship game. Harrington is looking to become just the second player in Southland history to receive the award.
