Harrington Recognized by AP

BEAUMONT, Texas – Less than 24 hours after being named to the STATS FCS All-America team, junior running back Kade Harrington has received Associated Press First-Team All-America honors.

The 2015 Southland Conference Player of the Year became the first player in conference history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. Harrington ended the year with 2,092 yards on 266 carries, including 21 touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 213 yards and two scores. Not only did Harrington become the first player in Southland history to rush for at least 2,000 yards in a season, he also became just the seventh player in NCAA Division I history to rush for 2,000 yards in just 10 games – joining a list that includes Marcus Allen and Barry Sanders.

The Kingwood, Texas native set a school record for consecutive games with at least 100 rushing yards. During his eight-game streak, Harrington rushed for at least 200 yards six times, including a conference record 347 rushing yards against Abilene Christian. The following week Harrington set a school single-game record by rushing for five touchdowns at Northwestern State.

A big-play threat every time he touched the ball, Harrington recorded 63 carries of at least 10 yards. He also posted eight runs of at least 50 yards and three of 70 or more. By season's end, Harrington recorded the eighth-best single-season mark by a running back in NCAA FCS (formerly I-AA) history.

Harrington was even more dangerous against Southland opponents. He racked up an astonishing 220.9 rushing yards per game in league play, while setting SLC single-season records for rushing yards per game and points per game.

The 2015 American Sports Network Player of the Year, Harrington ended the season ranked first nationally in total rushing yards (2,092), yards per game (190.2 ypg), rushing touchdowns (21) and all-purpose yards (213.36 ypg). He also finished the season ranked second in points per game (12.5 ppg) and third nationally in yards per carry (7.86 ypc).

Harrington has been recognized throughout the season for his success on the field. A three-time SLC Offensive Player of the Week, Harrington was honored twice by the STATS LLC as the National Offensive Player of the Week.

A 2015 STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Year Award finalist (formerly known as the Walter Payton Award) – FCS football's version of the Heisman Trophy, Harrington has also been named to the College Sports Madness All-America squad.
