HAMMOND, La. – Following the 2024 Southland Conference Baseball Championships, Lamar University senior
River Orsak and junior
Brayden Evans were named to the all-tournament team.
The Cardinal duo nearly led Lamar to an improbable comeback in the conference tournament. After dropping their first game, Big Red responded by scoring 48 runs over their next three games catapulting itself into a semifinal elimination game.
Orsak made the all-tournament team after posting a run never seen in tournament history. The Mont Belvieu, Texas native went 10-for-21 (.476) at the plate with seven home runs, two doubles, 13 RBIs while slugging 1.571.
Orsak set a tournament record with seven home runs – five coming in one day, three in one game. Entering the tournament, Orsak had 11 home runs on the season but ended the four-day stretch by tying the school's single-season record with 18 home runs becoming just third Cardinal to hit 18 homers in a season (Michael Ambort and Reid Russell).
For all the success Orsak had at the plate, Evans outhit his teammate in Hammond. Evans was 11-for-22 (.500) at the plate with three home runs, two doubles and six RBIs while slugging 1.000.
The duo combined to score 18 runs as Lamar scored 55 runs in its five games averaging 11 runs per game.
