Lamar University Athletics

One of the really skilled players on the great 1932 Lamar Junior College team, Otis Lee was co-author of House Bill No. 2 that gained senior college status for Lamar University.

An eight-year member of the Texas Legislature, the honorable state representative co-authored the bill with Jack Brooks to enable Lamar to become a four-year institution in 1951. Lee served in the House of Representatives from 1947-51 and 1953-57.

A two-year letterman on coach John Gray’s 1932 and 1933 teams, Lee was the key performer in four wins during an 8-1 campaign in 1932. He scored five touchdowns and passed for three others that season. Noted for his big-play ability, Lee scored on a 65-yard punt return and threw a 55-yard touchdown pass. Although the smallest Lamar player, he was the only player to start all 21 games during the two-year period.
