Jackie Harris was a two-time All-American in track at Lamar University. He also lettered in football for the Cardinals.

Harris set an LU and Southland Conference record with a 45.74 clocking for the 400-meter dash at the 1984 SLC Championships. He ran the anchor leg on the 1,600-meter relay team that finished second at the 1984 NCAA Track and Field Championships.

Harris also participated on the unit that set the school record in the 400-meter relay with a time of 40.00 in 1984. He set the LU record in the 440-yard dash with a time of 48.60. He was the SLC 400-meter dash champion in 1983 and earned NCAA All-America honors in 1981 and 1984.
