Lamar University’s first player to be drafted by a major-league team, Eddie Rundle was the fourth-round pick of the San Diego Padres in 1969.

An All-Southland Conference selection in 1968, Rundle led the team with four home runs, 31 runs batted in and a .322 batting average. He set the LU school for RBIs in a game with six and single-season RBI average at 1.15 per game. Rundle also led the team in total bases (49) and was tied for the team lead in hits (29) in 1968.
