Lamar University did not have a formal women’s intercollegiate athletic program when Clifford Ann Creed attended the school from 1956 through 1960, but her individual successes in women’s amateur tournaments, and later as a professional, brought everlasting recognition back to the institution.

Creed had a distinguished professional career on what is now the LPGA tour. She finished among the top 10 money winners six times, including a fourth-place finish in her rookie season of 1962.

A native of Opelousas, La., Creed was a six-time winner of the Louisiana State Open. Her other major successes included the championship of the Western Open and earning a place on the Curtis Cup team. The recipient of the Player/Coach Award from the National Golf Coaches Association for excellence in contribution to golf and community, Creed served as a teaching professional at the French Country Club in Sulphur, La.
