News and Notes on Lamar
HAVE BATS, WILL TRAVEL
Â
Lamar has just six games left in Vincent-Beck Stadium with the vast majority of its remaining games on the road, including a stretch of 12 consecutive away that will start April 24 at LSU and end May 13 at Stephen F. Austin.
Â
SECREST HEATING UP
Â
Cole Secrest is starting to make the leap. The freshman started his career with a .636 mark (7-of-11) and eight RBI in the first three games he played, then his numbers dropped as teams started scouting him. In the last four games Secrest has returned to his power-hitting ways; he hit .667 last week (12-of-16) with six RBIs and three runs scored. He struck out only twice in that time period.
Â
FRESHMEN FORCED INTO SIGNIFICANT ROLES
Â
So far this season Lamar's freshmen batters have started 89 times in the lineup for Lamar, 70 more starts than opposing teams' freshmen have against the Cardinals; LU has faced just 19 freshmen all year.
