BEAUMONT, Texas – Christian Albright (P, 6-8, Dallas, Texas/Lamar State College – Port Arthur) and Joey Frenchwood (G, 6-1, 180, Newark, Calif./Hill JC) will transfer to Lamar University to further their education and play basketball announced LU head basketball coach Tic Price Wednesday morning.

Albright and Frenchwood join a Cardinals signing class that includes Tyrin 'TJ' Atwood (Beaumont, Texas), Cameron McGee (Dallas, Texas) and Colton Weisbrod (Nederland, Texas/LSCPA) who signed in November.

"We're very excited about the addition of Albright and Frenchwood," said Price. "These are two talented young men who fill a need on our roster."

With the loss of two point guards following the season, Frenchwood fills a pressing need. A "pass first" point guard, Frenchwood brings NCAA Division I experience to the Golden Triangle having originally signed with Montana State out of high school where he started 10 games.

"We knew going into this recruiting process that we needed another point guard," said Price. "Joey is a pass first guard who doesn't turn the ball over. He comes from a good family and brings a high basketball IQ with him. He really seemed to fit in with our team. When we brought him in on a visit the players really liked him. I thought that (assistant coach) Brian (Burton) did a good job of scouting him and we were able jump on him early."

Frenchwood averaged 12 points and six assists while leading Hill to a 22-9 (.710) overall record and a postseason berth. Following the season, he garnered first-team all-conference honors after a year that saw him shoot nearly 45 percent from three-point range.

Coming out of high school, Frenchwood was a three-time all-district selection and named district MVP following a year where he averaged 17 points and six assists per game. He also had an offer on the table from Hawai'i coming out of the prep ranks.

The LU coaching staff made the short trip down the road to LSCPA to find another talented player in Albright. A junior college teammate of Weisbrod, Albright comes to LU after helping guide the Seahawks to one of their best seasons in program history. LSCPA posted a 22-10 (.688) record, and was nearly perfect at home (16-1) on its way to winning the Region XIV South Zone Championship for the first time in school history.

"Christian was a great compliment to Colton this season at LSCPA," said Price. "He is a hard-working player who is not afraid to do the dirty work. He is a post player with a good inside/outside game, and is an excellent passer."

He averaged 8.0 and 5.0 rebounds for the Seahawks, but has big play potential. He netted a season-high 19 points and pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds during the year. He also recorded four double-doubles during the 2015-16 season.
