BEAUMONT, Texas – As the Lamar University football team makes the final preparations for the 2015 season-opener against Bacone College, fans are invited to enjoy the day at Provost Umphrey Stadium getting ready for the game. There will be numerous events for fans to take part in leading up to kickoff.
                             
In addition to the tradition of tailgating, the LU athletics department will once again be sponsoring the Fun Zone beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Fun Zone is a pregame area geared toward children featuring family outdoor games. The KONA Ice truck will also be hand selling ice treats.
 
Also beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Cardinals football team will take part in the Walk of Champions. The march to Provost Umphrey Stadium begins at the Setzer and will cross over the Virginia Street bridge.
 
The ATO Alumni Tug-O-War Challenge for $1,000 begins with the preliminary rounds on the practice fields Saturday. Teams advancing to the semifinals will compete in the stadium during halftime.
 
MCT Credit Union will serve as the gameday sponsor, and will be handing out T-shirts to the first 2,000 fans. Free schedule magnets will be handed out at Gate 2 while supplies last. Beginning at 5 p.m., J.A.G. will be performing a concert at the northwest end of the stadium (by the Montagne Center marquee). The concert will last until approximately 6:30 p.m., allowing fans plenty of time to make their way to the stadium for kick off.
 
The LU student body will form the Red Rush tunnel for the Cardinals' coaches and players to run through just before kick off. The highlight of the day will come moments later when LU kicks off a new season against Bacone College. LU looks to improve upon a record-setting 2014 season that saw eight wins, including one over rival, and nationally ranked McNeese State.
