Montagne Center Gets Upgrade

April 22, 2015

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar men's and women's basketball teams will open the 2015-16 season playing with new goals in the Montagne Center. The goals, which came from New York following the NCAA Championships - Syracuse Regional, were shipped to Beaumont following the conclusion of the tournament and installed Monday. The new standards replace the ones that have been in place since the Montagne Center opened.

Unlike the old hydraulic-based goals, the new goals are spring-loaded and counter-balanced which means they can be easily raised and lowered by one individual. Spalding not only has a contract with the NCAA to supply the goals for all regional sites through the Final Four, but they also supply the goals for the NBA as well.

The Syracuse Regional witnessed No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Louisville, No. 7 Michigan State and eighth-seeded North Carolina State. The regional final saw the Spartans outlast Louisville, 76-70, in an upset to advance to the Final Four.
